Berlin’s subway stations are both pride and shame

The subway station Klosterstraße is crumbling. Unfortunately not an isolated case.

Berlin has a suitable subway station for every preference. If you like it pompous, go to Heidelberger Platz, minimalists will find what they are looking for along the U6 and the new stop Museumsinsel is magically beautiful.

Unfortunately, there is also a list of the rundown train stations.

Grenzallee, Weinmeisterstrasse, Yorckstrasse. Places to wean off. Now the Klosterstraße station, which once came along so proudly, is probably one of them.

A subway train from 1910, Babylonian palm trees on the walls, large enamel panels behind the tracks. Now the tiles are falling off the walls.

Subway stations used to be figureheads and transport cathedrals. Today you can often only shake your head when driving through.
