Para-swimmer Semechin, who was Athlete of the Year last year and 2019, won World Championship silver this year — in the middle of her chemotherapy and just months after having a brain tumor removed.
“The renewed nomination is a huge honor,” she said in a statement from the organizers. In addition to the 29-year-old, speed skater Claudia Pechstein and sprinter Gina Lückenkemper are nominated for women.
Javelin thrower Julian Weber, the soccer player who plays in the USA, can look forward to being voted Sportsman of the Year Hany Mukhtar and the NBA pro Franz Wagner make hopes
Good chances for Union and Fischer
In addition to the votes of the fans, the results of an expert jury also contribute 50 percent to the final result of the audience award, which has been awarded since 1979. The winners will be honored at the Estrel on December 3rd.
The team of the year is also honored, and the “Coach/Manager” category is also represented. Union Berlin coach Urs Fischer should have good chances there, as in the previous year.
