After the departure of Mariette Rissenbeek (67) from the dual directorship, Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth decided that the festival would be managed by a single person again in the future. This will not be the previous boss Carlo Chatrian (51).

Bang at the Berlinale. Festival director Carlo Chatrian will be in charge of the Berlin Film Festival for the last time in February 2024.

After the departure of the director and managing director Mariette Rissenbeek from the dual leadership, the supervisory board of the federal cultural events in Berlin (KBB) considered it necessary “artistic decisions, profitability, the film market and international fame after the departure of the director and managing director Mariette Rissenbeek in a new structure and has set up a search committee to search for a new directorship,” says a statement.

Accordingly, the chairman of the supervisory board and Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (Greens) decided “that the largest public film festival in the world should again be managed and represented by one person”. This will obviously not be Chatrian.

However, he said he was willing to take on a new role in the Berlinale team.
