“Die” with Lars Eidinger and “In Love, Your Hilde” with Liv Lisa Fries can hope for bears.
The Berlinale will be taking place in the capital for the 74th time from February 15th to 25th. The program for the film festival has now been finalized.
New dramas by Matthias Glasner and Andreas Dresen
A total of 20 films will be shown in the international competition – including two German feature films. Director Matthias Glasner (“Gnade”) presents his latest drama “Die”, in which Lars Eidinger, Corinna Hafouch and Ronald Zehrfeld can be seen. And with “In Love, Your Hilde” Andreas Dresen (“Gundermann”) is entering the Golden Bear Race. In his Second World War film, Mimin Liv Lisa Fries takes on the role of resistance fighter Hilde Coppi.
“Small Things Like These” presents
The opening film is “Small Things Like These” starring Cillian Murphy on the big screen. The work is based on the novel of the same name by Claire Keegan and tells the story of the so-called Magdalen Laundries, also known as Magdalen Homes, in Ireland. Between the 1820s and 1996, women were forced to do hard, physical, but unpaid work in order to “improve” themselves after they had generally fallen into disrepute in the eyes of society through, for example, illegitimate pregnancies, theft and similar crimes . And Cillian Murphy, in his role as Bill Furlong, gets insights into this world and now has to decide how to deal with the insights and feelings about it.

This year the Berlinale would like to present productions from 30 countries – a total of 19 films will celebrate their world premiere at the prestigious event lasting several days. In addition, director legend Martin Scorsese will be honored with the Honorary Golden Bear for his life’s work. Film highlights from him will also be shown in the Berlinale program.
In addition to the actors and directors mentioned, industry stars such as Rooney Mara, Gael García Bernal, Olivier Assayas, Hong Sangsoo and Isabelle Huppert can also be expected on the red carpet.
