Taxi driving in Berlin is becoming significantly more expensive.

Three years after the last tariff increase, the Senate decided to increase prices by an average of 20 percent, as Mobility Senator Bettina Jarasch (Greens) announced on Tuesday.

The change will take effect on December 20th.

It also affects the airport tariff for BER in Schönefeld, which was only changed in May of this year. For the taxes from the Brandenburg district of Dahme-Spreewald, in which the BER is located, a corresponding decision by the district council is still pending.

Jarasch justified the tariff increase with increased costs for the taxi industry. These are due to high energy prices, but also a higher minimum wage.

The new tariffs affect practically all basic and kilometer prices as well as surcharges in tariff levels 2 and 3. Only the flat rate for short distances up to two kilometers (tariff level 1) remains unchanged at six euros.
