Berlin Senate extends corona measures until March 31

Berlin will retain the previously applicable corona measures until March 31, after which they will no longer apply, with a few exceptions. The Senate decided to extend it on Saturday, the Senate Chancellery tweeted.

The federal and state governments had actually agreed in principle that all more far-reaching restrictions would already be lifted on Sunday (March 20). However, like other countries, Berlin is now making use of a transitional period.

The Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) had already announced this after the Senate meeting last Tuesday and justified it with the Corona situation. The number of infections nationwide has been rising again for some time.

► From April 1st there should only be a few so-called basic protective measures. These include the obligation to wear masks in local public transport as well as in hospitals and nursing homes. In certain areas, compulsory testing should also continue, for example in schools.

The previously usual free corona rapid tests for everyone who are paid for by the federal government will then probably no longer be available to the previous extent.
