Berlin police must now guard themselves

Thousands of overtime hours, continuous demo work and now security services too! After a security company went bankrupt, Berlin police officers now have to guard their own buildings.

According to BZ information, the properties on Ruppiner Chaussee (riot police), on Charlottenburger Chaussee (police directorate 2), Friesenstrasse (directorate 5) and Radelandstrasse (police academy) were affected by the sudden withdrawal of security staff last week.

“The contracting partner of the company Stolzenburg Sicherheit und Service GmbH is Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH,” the police said when asked. The BIM commissions the security services for the security authority.

It is unclear how long the officials will have to stand at the barriers and revolving doors themselves.

“The question of the effects cannot be answered conclusively at the present time, as the necessary coordination between BIM and the provisional insolvency administrator is being conducted,” said a spokeswoman for the authorities.

The police union (GdP) demands that security belongs back in the hands of the police’s property guards.

Spokesman Benjamin Jendro: “It can always happen that companies go bankrupt. But we can see very clearly that we have made ourselves very dependent on external parties.” Additional positions at the central object protection are therefore necessary.
