Berlin police: investigation into fatal car incident still ongoing | Abroad

According to the latest information from the police, 14 people were injured, several seriously. They all belonged to a group of students from Bad Arolsen in the German state of Hesse, who were visiting the capital accompanied by some teachers. A female supervisor was killed and another teacher was seriously injured. According to aid workers, five or six victims are in bad condition.

The 29-year-old Armenian-German motorist drove onto the pavement on Kurfürstendamm on Wednesday, where numerous people were walking, and drilled into a shop window 200 meters further on Tauentzienstrasse. He was also taken to a hospital. The police, with the support of a special unit, went to the man’s home in the Charlottenburg district to search it.

In addition, contact has been made with his sister, whose name the car is said to be. A police spokesman told DPA news agency Wednesday evening that there is “evidence to support the theory of a psychological emergency” in the driver. However, he stressed that this is just one of the directions the investigation is heading in and nothing has been ruled out yet.
