TOsee you present The paper house? Here, forget it. Berlinthe spin off and prequel series starting today on Netflix, is a tight and decidedly innovative one-man show. And not just because the thief who died in the second season of the original cult attempts a 44 million euro coup at the most important auction house in Paris.
Berlin is not that of The paper house«crazy, dark and murky – declared the interpreter Pedro Alonso –, has nuances never known: he is a brighter character, as if he were immersed in a romantic comedy». And in fact this prequel is a sort of heist about love. Here because.
Berlin: the plot of the prequel to The paper house
It all begins with a farewell to a woman. She is the third wife from whom Berlin (Pedro Alonso) divorces. Now the thief is a single man who wants to enjoy a nabob’s heist. He targeted the most important auction house in Paris and planned to burgle all the jewels (worth 44 million euros) that were expected to arrive in the French capital a day before the auction. To find out when who is managing the auction, a certain Polignacwho lives in the building opposite the hotel where Berlin and his gang are staying.
While spying on Polignac, the thief comes across his wife Camile (Samantha Siqueiros), a splendid woman with whom he falls in love. Berlin follows her in the evening, where she performs in a club. And as with a robbery, he plans in detail how to approach and conquer it. All while his henchmen begin digging a tunnel in the basement of a church to reach the auction house.
Could Berlin’s distraction towards Camile be risky for the success of the coup? His advisor Damián (Tristán Ulloa) has no doubts: certainly! But for the thief de The paper house it is a challenge within the challenge.
The episodes: love is the common thread of Berlin
Berlin would do anything to win Camile’s heart: «Love is like a tsunami, an irrepressible force that overwhelms you», the thief is convinced, and he cannot help but feel this energy. Our robber and seducer he ends up in bed with Camile and falls in love with her. In the meantime, her husband discovers her betrayal, it’s a shame that Berlin hadn’t foreseen the reaction of his beloved woman: «I can’t leave him, I stay with him».
Obviously the thief who can do everything cannot accept losing, and so he plans to frame Polignac as the architect of the 44 million euro jewel heist. Will he succeed in his plan? Love is the underlying theme of the entire series and is told in its many nuances also through the gang members. The result is not up to the standard of the New York master, but towards the most agitated episodes of the finale, between one chase and another, a twist and a passionate kissthe series offers moments of wholesomeness lightness and pure fun.
In each episode it explores the various faces of love. For someone in the group «the love of life is just a lie»; «marriage is like hell», for others «relationships are nothing more than a handful of beautiful moments within a great failure»; Berlin has many versions of love, for sure «it’s the only reason life is worth living», but it is an elephant at risk of extinction.

There are five robbers helping Berlin in this robbery of the century. Damian (Tristán Ulloa) does double duty: he is a university professor and criminal in his free time.
Like all geniuses he is quite distracted. He is marriedbut the affair with his wife is about to end. Keila (Michelle Jenner) it’s excellent electronic engineer, capable of hacking any devicethere is only one thing bigger than his brain, the pathological shyness. He loses his mind for Bruce (Joel Sánchez), the gang’s action man. She’s actually not his type, but love plays strange tricks.
Roy (Julio Peña Fernández) is a talented lock opener. In Berlin he saw the father he never had. He is as loyal as a dog you save from the street. Particular signs: a tattoo on the knuckle of the middle finger and Harry Potter glasses.
In the end Cameron (Begoña Vargas) lives on the edge and is pure adrenaline. She is experiencing a delicate moment in love: she carries with her a deep wound that is still bleeding. Maybe Bruce will be able to mend it.

A pinch of Italy couldn’t be missing Berlin. “We stole the crime genre from the Anglo-Saxons, and the romantic comedy from the French,” he declared Pedro Alonso. And to Italy? With The paper house it depopulated Hello beautifulin the prequel Berlin and Damián will perform a live version of Happiness by Albano and Romina Power. A top moment. Who knows if the fans will like it.
