A Berlin solidarity march for Ukraine is estimated to have attracted more than 100,000 participants. The police’s estimate is well below that of the organizers, who say half a million people showed up. About 20,000 demonstrators were expected.
The protesters demand that Russia immediately end the war in Ukraine. Their banners and posters bear texts such as “stop the war”, “peace” and “stop Putin”. The route of the march takes the demonstrators past the Brandenburg Gate, one of the most famous structures in the city.
There are also demonstrations against the war in Ukraine in other countries on Sunday, including in the Netherlands. Since the start of the invasion Thursday, demonstrations have taken place worldwide.
