Lfor the life of one family of peach farmers won the jury of the Berlin Film Festival 2022: Alcarràs, choral film by Carla Simónwon theGolden Bear at the 72nd Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale)surpassing others 18 international works.
This is the first film in Catalan language to receive this award. As usual, the prize comes assigned to producersnamely María Zamora, Stefan Schmitz, Tono Folguera and Sergi Moreno (below).
At the head of the international jury there was M.Night Shyamalanin addition to Karim Aïnouz, Saïd Ben Saïd, Anne Zohra Berrached, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Ryûsuke Hamaguchi and Connie Nielsen.
The Italian film Leonora Farewell by Paolo Taviani won the award instead Fipresci-Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographiquewhose jury was composed of René Marx (France), Anna Maria Pasetti (Italy) and Hsin Wang (Taiwan).
The film triumphed with the following motivation: “Led by the free spirit of the genius of Pirandello, the director mixes poetry, melancholy, but also irony, fantasy and happiness to tell us the mysteries of life, death and memory ».
The plot of Alcarràs
Set ad Alcarràsa village in Catalonia between Zaragoza and Barcelona, the film – also produced by the Italian Kino Produzioni – tells the history of the Solé family, which opposes the intention to install solar panels on an agricultural plot dedicated to the cultivation of peach trees. Economic worries lead to deep fractures in the family.
The director comes from Barcelona and was inspired by her personal storychoosing for his work non-professional actors who speak the Catalan dialect.
