Berlin FDP calls for new transport planning from the Senate

A fresh start for traffic planning in the heart of the city. The Berlin FDP parliamentary group demands this in a parliamentary motion for the session on Thursday.

“The Senate has chosen a policy of small steps, which for ideological reasons has only focused on individual road sections,” says traffic expert Felix Reifschneider (44).

“The overall consideration of traffic flows, urban development and cultural impact on the area are not taken into account.”

The most important FDP demand: suspend procedures that limit the scope for design in the center of Berlin!

These include:

► Stop the permanent blocking of a part of Friedrichstrasse for cars – and immediately let cars roll again in the 500-meter section.

► For the time being, no conversion of Charlottenstraße into a bicycle street.

► Check the blocking of Wilhelmstraße at the British Embassy – it has been de-consecrated since 2005 for security reasons, so it is no longer a street.

► Put planning for the tram route on Leipziger Straße on hold – however, it should not be implemented until 2028 anyway.

“It’s time to rethink Berlin’s city center. That too will determine the future of Friedrichstrasse,” says Reifschneider.
