Berlin concert bureaucracy: Iron Maiden “disturbing”, Lindenberg “less disruptive”

Ideally, concerts are places of ecstasy, passion and emotion. In order to make it possible, however, it often takes patience, meticulously filled out applications and decibel measurements. First the bureaucracy, then the fun. Herbert Grönemeyer, who had to cancel his eight-concert tour due to a corona disease, also had to learn this recently. And couldn’t find any alternative dates either, because after the many canceled concerts in 2020 and 2021, there is now a lack of availability of stadiums, staff, stages and technical equipment. in one on Instagram publish letter wrote the “completely shocked” musician:

“As a band, we were spared the virus for two and a half years, we isolated ourselves in the run-up to the tour, we’ve all been vaccinated several times, have been continuously tested and yet it hit us now of all times […] This is very bitter”

Of course, not every concert stage is played every evening. However, in addition to personnel bottlenecks, there are also bureaucratic requirements that stand in the way. Because in most locations it is not allowed to play every evening, instead only a certain number of concerts are approved. How many there are seems somewhat arbitrary, at least in Berlin. As the spokesman for the environmental administration said, “daily mirror” explained opposite, there is no fixed upper limit for concerts, but depending on the location “a certain tradition.”.

According to the Berlin environmental authority, there is indeed a catch-up effect this year. For example, more concerts were approved on the Wuhlheide and the Waldbühne than before the pandemic. Interesting: The concerts are divided into the categories “disturbing” and “less disturbing / not disturbing” by the environmental administration depending on the expected volume. The concerts by Trailerpark, Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden, Marteria and Seeed are considered to be disruptive. On the other hand, the performances by the Berlin Philharmonic, Udo Lindenberg and Roland Kaiser are said to be less annoying for the residents. However, the Imagine Dragons and the Broilers were also placed in the “less disturbing/not disturbing” category.

Herbert Grönemeyer brings none of this. He will probably not be able to play any more concerts this year. If everything goes well this time, it will be shown in eleven cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in May 2023. Then it will also become clear whether his concerts are more “disruptive” or “less disruptive” events. Maybe it depends a bit on your taste in music.
