Berlin’s CDU leader Kai Wegner believes that cooperation with the Greens after the re-election to the House of Representatives is out of the question.

“What the Greens and Mrs. Jarasch are demanding in the election campaign, especially in transport policy, cannot be done with me. Point,” he said in an interview with the “Tagesspiegel” (Saturday). He justified this with plans by the Greens to want to remove half of the parking spaces in the capital – this is “a unilateral policy against the car,” says Wegner.

The CDU top candidate, on the other hand, spoke out in favor of a two-party alliance with the SPD. “I’m a big fan of two-person constellations. That’s always good for a stable government,” Wegner said. “If the Social Democrats believe that everything will remain as it is and they will continue to rule for three and a half years in a different constellation, I will not go along with it,” said the CDU politician.

In a survey published on Thursday by the opinion research institute Infratest dimap, the CDU received 25 percent of the votes. The SPD followed in second place with 19 percent of the votes, the Greens came in third, one percentage point behind.

The two-party coalition with the SPD favored by Wegner would only be mathematically tangible if the FDP missed out on re-entering the Berlin House of Representatives. The party is in Thursday’s poll at six percent.
