Berlin bookworms wanted for world record!

This record attempt is something for real bookworms! Since last week Saturday something big is supposed to happen in Berlin. 21 days (504 hours) should be read in one go. The start was made by the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (43, SPD).

The organizers are the Reading Lounge Association and the Berlin Citizens’ Foundation. The marathon reading is staged at various locations in our city – including libraries, supermarkets and Friedrichsfelde Palace.

The readings are broadcast live on the Internet. Each participant reads from a previously selected book for at least half an hour.

“Especially the coming week has to be filled well,” says Steffen Schröder (38), managing director of the community foundation. “The night owls in particular are a popular people that we miss.”

After all, for the record to stand, you have to read around the clock. “Midnight to 7 a.m. is a particularly demanding time,” says Schröder.

Around 700 readers are needed, around 450 are still missing. Each of them gets a certificate at the end.
