Berlin also gets under our skin

By Pauline von Pezold

Wow, you don’t even know where to look first! The whole back a single declaration of love to Berlin…

Capital feeling that gets under your skin. After the BZ report on Robert Kowarik (35), who had the television tower pierced and thus became the star of a new campaign for the famous landmark, other tattoo fans reported: We also have Berlin on our body!

Jürgen Karl (54) lives in Aachen, but comes to the capital several times a year. “I’m crazy about Berlin,” he says. The Brandenburg Gate can be seen on its upper back. And underneath – crazy! – the entire map of a Berlin marathon.

Karl got them tattooed after walking the 42.195 kilometers through the capital. He invested seven sessions, each lasting up to five hours, 2500 euros and a lot of pain: “But the anticipation was so great that it hurt a lot. I haven’t regretted it for a second.”

For Martin Streege (35), a Berliner by choice, it only took three hours and cost 250 euros for the television tower to be immortalized on his forearm. “I didn’t have any pain,” says the Schwerin native. “I had it done in a tattoo studio in Neubrandenburg three years ago. In Berlin it would have easily cost me 450 euros.”
