Institutional investors who hold investments in excess of US$100 million are required to report quarterly to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) about this information. The 13F form is publicly available and was published on February 14, 2023. The data is as of December 31, 2022.
While the star investor increased its top position in the fourth quarter of 2022, some sales in the reporting quarter were particularly noticeable. In the fourth quarter, Berkshire Hathaway sold 12.35 percent of its shares in video game maker Activision Blizzard — the ninth-largest position in Buffett’s portfolio.
The old master took action even more clearly at the Bank of New York Mellon – this stake reduced the investment vehicle by a whopping 56.70 percent and held only 25,069,867 shares in the financial house worth $ 1.14 billion as of the reporting date. Just a quarter earlier, the financial house was the 14th largest holding with 62,210,878 shares held by Berkshire.
Buffett also massively reduced his stake in the chip manufacturer TSMC: he last owned 8,292,724 shares in the Taiwanese company – 86 percent less than in the previous quarter.
Only the sale of US Bancorp shares was even clearer: Buffett threw 91.4 percent of his stake in the bank out of the portfolio in the fourth quarter: The remaining 6,670,835 shares were last valued at $290.91 million.
