The Berkemann Group takes over the children’s shoe specialist Däumling.
As of November 1, the shoe supplier will continue “the previous business with the Däumling brand under the newly founded Däumling children’s shoe factory in Bruchweiler,” Berkemann announced at the end of October.
“With this step, we are expanding our group portfolio in a meaningful way and, to a certain extent, returning to our DNA at the same time,” said Berkemann Managing Director Thomas Bauerfeind. “Because the Berkemann original sandal with the 5-phase footbed, on which our brand essence is based, was originally developed in the 1950s for the healthy development of children’s feet in order to prevent foot malpositions by activating and strengthening the foot muscles.”
The Däumling team should continue to “promote the existing collections independently, while retaining the WMS width system, and continue to produce at the current location in Germany,” says Bauerfeind. The 50 employees at the Däumling location in Germany will be taken on.
Däumling was founded in 1937 by Hermann Meyer and continued as a family business. The fourth generation is no longer interested in continuing the tradition, explains the previous company owner, Bernd Weinspach.
