Gregg Berhalter can hope for a return to coaching the US national soccer team.
This was confirmed by the US association after an independent investigation into the 49-year-old, who physically attacked his current wife Rosalind in 1991. The law firm Alston & Bird had concluded that Berhalter had not used any further violence.
According to the association, it was only on December 11 that the association found out about the allegations. “Given investigators’ conclusion that there are no legal obstacles to his appointment, Gregg Berhalter remains a candidate for the post of head coach of the men’s national team,” the association said.
Berhalter, whose contract expired at the turn of the year, had always regretted the attack on his girlfriend at the time. In Qatar, the US team had reached the round of 16. The United States is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup with Mexico and Canada.
