Most recently, the 28-year-old didn’t look good when he conceded two goals in the BVB draw in Frankfurt. Sports director Sebastian Kehl then summarized: “You could see that the Frankfurt team were more successful on this side. And yes, we may have made mistakes in positioning, teamwork and shifting. We can do better.” Although the Algerian has “played stable games” in the current season and is “not solely responsible,” Kehl said he can still “solve situations better in one place or another.”
The fact that coach Terzic is said to have internally expressed his desire for an alternative with a view to the winter transfer window was discussed in the media a few weeks ago. The profile we are looking for means that the new full-back is technically adept and can also play a creative role in building up the game. At first glance, at least on paper, Dortmund’s defensive flanks appear to be well equipped (for an overview), Julian Ryerson played to the fore on the right. The first alternative is Marius Wolf, who was seeded in the last second half of the season. On Bensebaini’s side, however, Terzic’s alternatives are rather limited.
The left-back, who left Gladbach in the summer after four years and 113 games (25 goals/8 assists) and is currently among the five most valuable professionals in his home country with a market value of 20 million euros, was able to meet expectations as the successor to FC Bayern Raphaël Guerreiro, who has emigrated, does not seem to be able to fully fulfill his expectations yet. According to the paper, the Bundesliga club is expecting a significant improvement in the professional’s performance in the upcoming cup duel with TSG Hoffenheim (Wednesday, 6 p.m.).
