Benschop and De Jong deliver a nasty evening to Young AZ at De Vijverberg

Young AZ lost a visit to De Graafschap. Charlison Benschop and Siem de Jong were accurate on De Vijverberg. As a result, the points in Doetinchem remained: 2-0.

It was precisely the former striker of AZ, Charlison Benschop, who hurt his old team. The pass was from another former AZ player Robin Schouten: 1-0. The Alkmaar promises did not get any further than long shots in the subsequent phase. The home side remained the most dangerous. First it was Giovanni Korte, who shot a cross just in front of the goal. Not much later, Sem Westerveld had to stretch at a hard blow from Benschop.

Young AZ then increasingly crawled out of the shell. Although the team did not get further than two shots from distance. A free kick by Mischa Engel was tapped over the bar by Hidde Jurjus. On the stroke of half-time Yusuf Barasi tried from a distance, but this effort was also a prey for the goalie.

Hope to smithereens

Jong AZ’s hopes were dashed in the second half. Former Ajax player Siem de Jong headed in from a corner from Alexander Büttner: 2-0. Hereafter, Westerveld had to save on a shot by Korte. In the counter-punch, Iman Griffith fired straight at Jurjus.

Substitute Mexx Meerdink’s rebound was barely taken off the line. In the final phase Danzell Gravenberch, brother of Ryan, got another chance. Again, Westerveld turned out to be a bummer, but the runs remained in Doetinchem.

Jong AZ is in ninth place due to the loss. NAC Breda will visit Wijdewormer next week.

Line-up Young AZ: Westerveld; Lathouwers, Goes, Stam (Poku/77), Engel (Dekkers/46); Twisk (Schouten/70), Neighbor, De Jong; Griffith, Barasi (Meerdink/46), Allouch (Addai/70)
