A group of young people caused a lot of nuisance in Bennebroek and the surrounding area last night and this afternoon. They disrupt the village on fast fat bikes and with heavy fireworks bombs. The police seem powerless and some villagers are at their wits’ end.
Bennebroek has been terrorized all weekend by a group of young people on fast electric fat bikes. Several people from Bennebroek called 112 or the national police number this weekend after they had been the target of nuisance, intimidation and heavy fireworks bombs all weekend, they told NH. Even though the police are aware of the situation, there appears to be no end in sight.
“There are fireworks here almost every evening,” a resident of Bennebroek told NH. “And I’m talking about really big bangs.” Municipal councilor Rob Slewe can also confirm that things got quite out of hand in Bennebroek last night. He has been informed about several problems with nuisance and heavy fireworks in the village.
No arrests
The police confirm to NH that they received several reports last night and this afternoon of nuisance and young people with fireworks in several streets in Bennebroek. Officers checked several young people, but no fireworks were found. No one was arrested.
“It is absurd that I receive signals from residents that it is not being handled well by the police at all,” Slewe emphasizes. “They have the feeling that nothing is being done about it. It is not easy what is happening, it is really disruptive for the village.”
Slewe reported it to Ankie Broekers Knol. She is not currently in the Netherlands, but from tomorrow she will be the acting mayor of the municipality of Bloemendaal. “Because something really has to happen now,” said Slewe.
