Zalando’s new Head of Retail Core comes from Nike.
Benjamin Wolf, who previously worked for the US sportswear giant for fifteen years, has been in the newly created position at the online fashion retailer Zalando since the beginning of March. In the future, he will take over the operational management of the Zalando outlet stores and lead the retail operations team, Zalando confirmed to FashionUnited. Wolf previously announced his new position on the LinkedIn careers network.
In his new position, Wolf reports to Holger Böhling, Head of Retail at Zalando. The Outlet Stores division as a whole is managed by Dorothee Schönfeld, Director Outlets. Zalando currently has 13 stationary outlets and an online shop.
During his time at Nike, the manager held various positions. According to his Linkedin profile, Wolf was most recently the director of retail operations at the sporting goods company for almost four years.
New addition despite planned job cuts
Just a few weeks ago, the Berlin company announced in an open letter to employees that it was planning to cut several hundred jobs. The years 2020 and 2021 would have meant “extraordinary growth” for Zalando, and now the mood to buy has weakened significantly. The job cuts are a tough but necessary step in order to prepare as best as possible for the challenges of the future, the statement said.
