The name Mussolini is actually connected to a dark chapter in Italian history. Football fans will hear him more often in the future.
The great-grandson of the fascist dictator Benito Mussolini will play in the Italian football elite class Series A. Romano Floriani Mussolini from the traditional club Lazio Rome to series promoted Us Cremonese.
The 22-year-old full-back most recently played on a loan base in series B at SS Juve Stabia. There he convinced, now the step in Italy’s highest division follows. As several media report, Cremona pays five million euros for the defender.
Lazio keeps 50 percent of the transfer rights. The club from the capital also has a buyback option. Floriani Mussolini comes from the Youth Academy of Lazio before he was loaned to Juve Stabia in the summer of 2023.
The defense lawyer is not only known for his achievements on the pitch. As a great -grandson of the fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, he bears a politically charged last name. His mother Alessandra was a member of the European Parliament for Forza Italia, the party of the late ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi.
Other family members are also publicly active: his aunt Rachele is a city councilor in Rome – and his great aunt is not less than film icon Sophia Loren.
