“I have always said that I will only leave Feyenoord when the time is right and the conditions are good for the club. I wanted nothing more than to be successful with this great club first,” said Kökcü, who, according to Benfica’s official information, will be paid a fee of 25 million euros. The sum can also increase to up to 30 million euros through bonuses. In addition, Feyenoord secured a resale participation.

Along with Luis Sinisterra (23), Kökcü is the most expensive Feyenoord exit and would be the sole leader including bonuses. On Benfica’s side, Kökcü is the most expensive signing when considering the base fee. Enzo Fernández (44.25 million euros) and Darwin Núñez (34 million euros) only later cracked the 30 million mark through resale participations. The central midfielder is also the second most expensive Turkish player in history behind Arda Turan (36). The 100-time national player switched from Atlético Madrid to FC Barcelona in 2015 for 34 million euros.
