There was great surprise in the Hofstoom meeting center in Haarlem when Henny van der Veldt walked in with two bunches of tulips. She is grateful to the center for the elderly with a faltering brain for the good care for her husband. “He always comes home with very nice stories.”
About twelve elderly people with ‘faltering brains’ come together every day in the meeting center. They play games, exercise and everything is focused on the future as much as possible.
“We have not often experienced that we have received a flower,” says Sabine van Haastrecht of Hofstroom. “Sometimes when we say goodbye to people, for example if they move on, we do get something. But like now with Henny, that’s new.”
“I’m actually waiting for the cake”
Piet van der Veldt, Henny’s husband, is a regular guest at the meeting center. “It’s always a party here and we have a lot of fun,” he says. “The people in particular make it a special place. You experience a lot of crazy things with the people here.”
And indeed, next to Mr. van der Veldt is Mrs. Groot. She is also happy with the flower, but with a cheerful smile she says that she is actually waiting for the pie that will also come.
Nice place
Van Haastrecht is very pleasantly surprised with Henny’s flowers and will give them a nice place. “It is of course always nice when people are satisfied with the care. We often hear that people are happy with us, but this is really an extra reward for what we do.”
