Benedikt Doll leaves career end open

Benedikt Doll is one of the great German hopes at the upcoming Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof. The veteran is looking forward to the competitions at home. The 2017 sprint world champion does not rule out continuing his career beyond the winter.

At 32, Benedikt Doll is one of the most experienced athletes on the German biathlon team. In an exclusive interview, the winter sports enthusiast revealed exactly when his career will end RTL/ntv and sport.de but still open.

“I actually wanted to decide that after the World Cup, let’s see. At the moment I’m having a lot of fun. That’s why I’m not ruling out doing another year,” said Doll.

Next winter, the Biathlon World Championships will take place in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. “It’s also a real biathlon hotspot, with 30,000 to 40,000 spectators,” said the seventh in the overall World Cup.

Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof “the career highlight”

“Such a World Cup is always a highlight,” Doll explained: “But for me, the overall World Cup is always very important to consistently perform, to always be on point. The World Cups have their charm and the World Championships also have their charm. But Now Oberhof with the home World Cup is already the career highlight.”

The expectations of the German biathlon team would not rest solely on an athlete.

“I think with the girls it’s pretty much concentrated on Denise (Herrmann-Wick, editor’s note). With us men, with Roman Rees, you already had someone on the podium, with David Zobel too in singles. Johannes Kühn is simply one of the best runners. If he scores, he’s also on the podium,” said Doll: “If they score, then they can be on the podium. And then we have two more, each of them If they’ve already shown their performance this year. If it doesn’t work out for one, then maybe it works for someone else that day.”
