Former international Ben Yedder has already been convicted. Now he has to answer on suspicion of rape and sexual assault.

After more than two years of investigation, former French national soccer player Wissam Ben Yedder was again charged with a sexual offense by the public prosecutor on Monday. According to the news agency Agence France-Press (AFP), Ben Yedder and his brother Sabri must answer charges of rape, attempted rape and sexual assault before the criminal court of the Alpes-Maritimes department.

The 35-year-old, who has already been sentenced to two years in prison for another sexual assault, is accused of having sexually assaulted two young women with his brother in the summer of 2023. The women met the brothers at a party near Monaco. According to their statements, the alleged attacks occurred there.

Ben Yedder and his brother deny the allegations. They can still appeal the decision to put them on trial.

The former AS Monaco striker, who has won 19 international matches for France, has repeatedly come into conflict with the judiciary in recent years. His current suspended sentence of two years is also based on a sexual assault when Ben Yedder, who was unemployed in 2024, took a 23-year-old woman into his car while he was drunk. The woman managed to escape and filed a complaint, which resulted in Ben Yedder receiving a suspended sentence.

At the beginning of September he was also sentenced in Nice to a fine of 90,000 euros for psychological violence against his wife. He had previously been prosecuted for tax evasion in Spain.

After his contract in Monaco ended in the summer of 2024, Ben Yedder briefly played in Iran for Sepahan SC before moving to Turkish second division club Sakaryaspor in September.
