Indie musician and singer-songwriter Ben Kweller announced a few days ago that his son Dorian passed away on Monday (February 27) at the age of just 16. His label “The Noise Company” spoke of a “tragic event”, Kweller wrote that his son had been killed. “TMZ‘ recounted a car accident, as his mother confirmed he died in a car wreck.
“It can’t be true that I have to write this, but I do… Our son, Dorian Zev Kweller, was murdered last night. He was only 16 and he was a true legend. The nicest, a good soul, kind to everyone. If you knew him, you know that. We’ll never get over this as long as we’re on earth. Please let’s ensure his spirit lives on through the memories of him and his music,” the 41-year-old wrote on Tuesday (February 28) along with a picture of his son on Instagram.
On Thursday, Ben Kweller posted a video of himself and Dorian. In the text he explained that his funeral will take place on Friday – and that they have established a “Dorian Zev Kweller Memorial Fund”. Among other things, the Kweller family wants to use the donations collected erect a memorial of sorts for their deceased son and a family cemetery at their ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas. Family therapy should also be paid from this. Donations to music and skateboarding communities are also being considered.
Dorian was a musician himself and recorded songs with his father. His first appearance would have been in two weeks. Ben and Liz Kweller have another son, 12-year-old Judah. In July, the former Radish singer posted a recording of him making music and singing with his sons while Dorian plays guitar and Judah plays drums.
On February 17, Kweller released the single “I Have The Power” along with a deluxe edition of his 2002 debut album SHA SHA.
