Ben Cramer causes great misunderstanding with his bizarre statement about Claude, who this year is going to the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of our country. “In which century were you born?!” Is the criticism.
The 78-year-old Ben Cramer is absolutely not enthusiastic about this year’s song festival entry: the 21-year-old Claude, who has to conquer the hearts of Europe with his cheerful song and cheerful appearance. According to Ben, however, we are going to get completely baking sail, because he thinks people get confused by his dark appearance.
Dark skin
According to Ben, it is confusing, that act of Claude. “English will look better internationally. Only we have a dark man who sings in French and English and has a French name, but he comes from the Netherlands. That is quite a bit, if you start thinking,” is his criticism.
What he means by this is really completely unclear. A lot of artists sing in English and French, and what the skin color of Claude has to do with that? Nobody knows.
“In which century?”
Telegraaf presenter Wilson Boldewijn finds it insane. “Ben Cramer said something about Claude. It was in one of the gossip magazines. He finds it all confusing:” A dark boy who sings French, “and then I think: Ben Cramer, in what century were you born?” He says in the section What does Jan think.
Private star Jan Uriot then: “I was shocked too. That he does not like Claude’s song, that is allowed, but then the statement that he finds it strange that a dark boy sings French … I don’t fully understand him.”
Half -Africa
Wilson cannot discover the logic either. “Half Africa speaks French. Many dark people in France speak French. Maybe Ben Cramer is becoming a little unworldly. Is that possible?”
Jan: “Yes, that could indeed.”
Wilson concludes with a wink: “He was just a clown.”
