Wants to continue career abroad
Bayer Leverkusen has to say goodbye to its longest-serving professional in the summer. As the “Werkself” announced on Tuesday, Karim Bellarabi will leave the club when his contract expires. The right winger switched from Eintracht Braunschweig to Bayer 04 in 2011 and, only interrupted by a loan back to BTSV, played a total of 290 games in which he scored 57 goals and provided 66 assists. With eleven years and ten months at the club, the 33-year-old is also one of the most loyal players in the Bundesliga.
But it should not be the end of his career yet. If his body plays along and he gets interesting offers, Bellarabi will consider moving outside of Europe, as can be read in the club’s announcement. “But that’s still a dream of the future for me, even though my farewell from Leverkusen is near. Now I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that we win the last two Bundesliga games, beat Roma on Thursday and then win the final on May 31 in Budapest,” said Bellarabi.
