Belgium washes away hangover after defeat against Orange with nice victory over Poland | NOW

Belgium washed away the hangover after the breakdown against the Dutch national team in the Nations League on Wednesday. The team of national coach Roberto Martínez won 6-1 against Poland in Brussels.

After the humiliation against the Orange, a lot of criticism erupted against the ‘Red Devils’, who, according to many Belgian media, suffered the most painful defeat in the recent history of the national team. National coach Martínez only spoke of a wake-up call.

Five days after the ear washing, Belgium was still not on the ball in the same King Baudouin stadium, because after half an hour of play Poland took the lead. Top scorer Robert Lewandowski escaped offside and then skilfully finished: 0-1.

Belgium had the better of the game in Brussels and immediately received a salary after work. Routinier Axel Witsel outwitted Polish goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski with a rock hard shot into the short corner and tied the score.

Only after the interruption did Belgium distance itself from Poland and it ran to 6-1. In the 59th minute Kevin De Bruyne made the 2-1 after good preparatory work by Eden Hazard and more than fifteen minutes before the end, Leandro Trossard crowned a beautiful solo with the 3-1. In the final phase, Trossard also made it 4-1 with a beautiful curling shot and Leander Dendoncker also contributed.

Vitesse attacker Loïs Openda then made his international debut with Belgium. The striker was suspended against the Dutch national team, but came in the lines against Poland in the 84th minute. In stoppage time, he scored 6-1 for the ‘Red Devils’, who are three points less than league-leader Orange. The Dutch national team won in a spectacular final phase with 1-2 against Wales.

Ukraine wins three days after missing World Cup

In Division B, Ukraine beat Ireland three days after missing out on a ticket for the World Cup in Qatar. Thanks to a goal by Viktor Tsygankov, the Ukrainians were 0-1 too strong for the Irish after the break. In the first half, a goal by Ukraine was rejected by the VAR for offside.

In the same group, Scotland triumphed 2-0 against Armenia, a final score that had already been reached at halftime. Anthony Ralston and Scott McKenna were the goalscorers for the Scots, who were knocked out by Ukraine in the play-offs for the World Cup ticket.

Due to their participation in the World Cup play-offs, Ukraine and Scotland have only played one game in the Nations League. They will play three matches instead of two in the international match period in October.
