Belgium supports the European Commission’s proposal to strengthen the concept of safe third countries in asylum policy. The plan is a further strengthening of the European asylum and migration pact adopted last year. “Europe may no longer be a market where people can shop for the best protection between Member States. Anyone traveling to Europe via a safe country should also be sent back to that safe country,” explains Minister of Asylum and Migration Anneleen of Bossuyt on Wednesday.
