The financial wealth of Belgians increased from April to the end of June because the financial assets of households increased more strongly (+ 10.8 billion) than the debts (+ 2.2 billion euros). All together, the net financial wealth of Belgians at the end of June amounted to 1,174.7 billion euros. At the end of 2021, this was still 1,230.7 billion euros. The statistics say nothing about the distribution of wealth.
The increase in financial assets in the second quarter was partly due to investments in term accounts and bonds. Listed shares and investment funds were only purchased to a limited extent by households, while less money went to current and savings accounts. Shares also lost value.
Debts increased mainly due to an increase in mortgage loans.
