If the demand for help proves to be too great for the more than 2,000 Red Cross volunteers in West Flanders, Belgian Red Cross-Flanders will activate its citizen volunteer platform. “Through our citizen volunteer platform, we can call on additional citizens from the region if necessary to provide municipalities with extra helping hands with logistical tasks. Think of cleaning affected homes, schools, youth centers, … or doing groceries for people who really need our extra help,” says Kaat Debaveye, Provincial Chairman of the Red Cross West Flanders.
