A court in Amsterdam has sentenced Nongo B. (24) from Mechelen to fourteen years in prison. B. was found guilty of stabbing British tourist Danny Castledine (22) to death.

The victim’s life was robbed in the center of the Dutch capital on the night of May 31 to June 1, 2022. The investigation showed that the tourist had been stabbed thirty times in the neck and head. The fatal stab was delivered into the carotid artery.

The suspect from Mechelen was arrested on the morning of June 1, 2022. He was in a confused state. His clothes and shoes were covered in blood. After investigation it turned out to be from Castledine.

Medicines and drugs

B. and the victim had met each other in the city center of Amsterdam and spent some time together. It remains unclear why their time together ultimately led to the deadly outbreak of violence.

During the court hearing two weeks ago, B. stated that he cannot remember anything about the stabbing. He was said to have been under the influence of medicines and drugs.

The Public Prosecution Service had demanded a prison sentence of fourteen years two weeks ago. The judge decided today to follow that demand.
