Belgian cyclist Shari Bossuyt after positive test: ‘Never consciously used’ | Cycling

Belgian cyclist Shari Bossuyt reacted for the first time to her positive doping test during a press conference in Zwevegem on Monday morning. Bossuyt tested positive after her stage victory in the third stage of the Tour de Normandie in March. Traces of letrozole metabolite were found in her urine. Her Canyon/SRAM Racing team suspended her for the time being.

“I had never heard of the product. I never consciously used it,” Bossuyt said on Monday. ,,I have never come into contact with letrozole and I have never consciously used it. I had never heard of the product. Everything indicates that we are dealing with a contamination, we think in terms of meat or milk. I hope to be able to clarify very soon and prove that we are not cheaters.”

Belgian cyclo-cross rider Toon Aerts was suspended for two years by the international cycling union UCI last year after testing positive for letrozole, which inhibits the breakdown of testosterone and anabolic steroids. He then appealed against the suspension. Aerts was present at the press conference on Monday.

Bossuyt won gold in the madison at the world championships in France with Lotte Kopecky last year.
