According to the club, the 47-year-old Clement will receive a contract until June 30, 2024. He had recently led Club Bruges to two championship titles in Belgium, having already won there with KRC Genk. The 38-time national player took part in the 1998 World Cup in France with the Belgian selection.
Monaco’s club management hopes that Clement will continue to implement his offensive philosophy and promote talents with the team with the German national player Kevin Volland and goalkeeper Alexander Nübel. Clement should continue the chapter started last summer and bring AS Monaco back to the top of France and onto the European stage, explained Vice President Oleg Petrow.
Missed Champions League qualification
Under Kovac, who started in summer 2020, Monaco had won three of the previous four Ligue 1 games. French media reported that those responsible were no longer satisfied with the former Frankfurt and Bayern coach after a good first season.
Monaco missed qualifying for the Champions League and are currently sixth in the league. The contract of the 50-year-old Croatian Kovac, who comes from Berlin, actually ran until 2023.
