Soon, three days after the World Cup, we had a leading group of six riders: Michael Vanthourenhout, Eli Iserbyt, Pim Ronhaar, Niels Vandeputte, Felipe Orts and home rider Emiel Verstrynge. Halfway through, an acceleration by Ronhaar resulted in a selection: Iserbyt and Vandeputte moved along.
But I couldn’t get away. Three laps before the end we still had 7 riders at the front: Orts, Iserbyt, Ronhaar, Wyseure, Vandeputte, Van der Haar and Vanthourenhout. The two riders from Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal proved to be the strongest. The duo sprinted for the win, and Iserbyt won it.
