Johan Daumerie, the Belgian businessman who has been detained in Dubai for almost two years, did not leave on Friday on a flight that would fly him home. The 50-year-old Dilbekenaar would take a plane from the airline Emirates to Brussels Airport at 2.20 pm. He was supposed to land there at 7:20 p.m., but Daumerie let it be known that he was not allowed to leave the emirate after all.

Daumerie was banned from traveling last year after relations with his local business partner, a prominent family in the emirate, broke down. After a long legal battle, he was acquitted by a local court in May. On Friday he wanted to fly home, but at the border control there appeared to be problems with his papers.

Daumerie says it is an administrative error and hopes to resolve the matter next week.
