Belgian boy (16) drowned in Germany | Abroad

A 16-year-old Belgian boy died on Saturday in an accident in a swimming pond in Rurberg, Germany.

Around 4 p.m., two Belgian boys, aged 10 and 16, jumped from a jetty into a pond in Rurberg. Presumably neither of them could swim well, reports the German news site ‘Aachener Nachrichten’. The ten-year-old boy was quickly retrieved from the water, but the sixteen-year-old did not resurface after his jump and could not be reached fast enough.

The rescue services were immediately notified. The boy was reported missing and a search was underway for the Belgian teenager. Boats, a helicopter and diving equipment were deployed. After two hours, emergency services found the boy’s lifeless body. Divers recovered the body in the early evening.
