Belgian beach walkers surprised by tide; man (69) deceased | Abroad

A walk on the beach in Pas-de-Calais (France) ended dramatically for a Belgian couple. When the high tide came in very quickly, the two hikers became stuck on a sandbank. The 69-year-old man died of cardiac arrest. His wife became hypothermic.

According to French media, the tragedy took place on Monday around 11:30 am on the beach of Sainte-Cécile in Camiers, near Toucquet (Pas-de-Calais department). With the help of a kite surfer who rushed over, the couple tried to return to the beach, but the man lost consciousness. He died on the spot. His wife was taken to Boulogne-sur-Mer hospital with symptoms of hypothermia.

Dangerous tide

The emergency services once again pointed out the danger of ebb and flow to the FranceInfo channel. It is better to wait for the emergency services than to enter the water in these cold temperatures, it is said. Nothing is known about the identities of the victims.
