Beiersdorf adhesives subsidiary Tesa opens new plant in Vietnam

NORDERSTEDT (dpa-AFX) – The adhesive tape manufacturer Tesa is pushing its international expansion with a new factory in Vietnam. On Thursday, the Beiersdorf subsidiary opened its new location in the Vietnamese port city of Haiphong. “The opening of the location is part of tesa’s strategic orientation to regionalize production,” it said in a statement. “The new plant will expand local production capacities and optimize supply chains to ensure reliable regional availability of products as well as transport capacities and raw material procurement.”

On around 70,000 square meters, Tesa has a production capacity of around 40 million square meters of adhesive tape per year. Initially, around 130 employees will work at the Haiphong location. At the same time, jobs are to be created for the local population, particularly in the areas of engineering and production, in order to support the local economy.

“The additional production capacity is primarily intended to serve the rapidly growing Asian market, particularly customers from the automotive and electronics industries.” Both industries cannot do without high-tech adhesive solutions. For example, more than 130 adhesive tapes can be installed in a modern electric vehicle alone – and around 70 in a cell phone. Tesa, with its headquarters in Norderstedt, just outside Hamburg, is one of the world’s most important providers of technical adhesive tapes.

Tesa has been represented in Asia since 2005 with a production site in Suzhou, China. The investment in Vietnam is valued at 55 million euros. Tesa currently operates 13 production facilities worldwide./kf/DP/men
