Will Katharina Schmid and Co. experience their little tour around the turn of the year in front of a full audience? So far, advance sales for Garmisch and Oberstdorf have gotten off to a rather slow start.
So far only around 6,500 tickets have been sold for the ski jumpers’ two-night tour. The organizers announced this shortly before Christmas. 3,000 tickets have been sold so far for the competitions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on December 30th, and 3,500 tickets have been sold so far for the event on New Year’s Day in Oberstdorf.
Organizers are expecting 14,000 spectators
The organizers are expecting good sales at the box office at both locations. Around 6,000 ski jumping fans are expected in Garmisch shortly before the turn of the year on December 30th (5:45 p.m. live on Sportschau). A total of 8,000 spectators are expected for the jumping on January 1st (4:15 p.m.) in Oberstdorf.
Men: Tour start already sold out
Significantly more tickets have already been sold at both locations for the men’s competitions of the traditional Four Hills Tournament. The tour start of the 72nd edition on December 29th (5:15 p.m.) in Oberstdorf is already sold out with 25,000 spectators, and around 20,000 fans are expected for the New Year’s competition in Garmisch (2 p.m.). Men’s and women’s competitions do not overlap in terms of time.
Women on tour ski jumps for the first time
For the first time, the ski jumpers around Katharina Schmid, Selina Freitag and Co. will be on the traditional tour ski jumps around the turn of the year. However, there is once again no full tour with four stops because the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) has not yet given the green light. The entire women’s tour could be held for the first time as early as next winter.
New Year’s Eve tournament for the last two years
There have been discussions for a long time about a women’s event parallel to the Four Hills Tournament. After a two-competition format in 2021/2022 in Ljubno, Slovenia, there was a first small “tour” for the women last winter: In the New Year’s Eve tournament, the ski jumpers determined the winner in four competitions on the two ski jumps in Villach and Ljubno, Austria. The overall winner was the Austrian Eva Pinkelnig. The overall World Cup winner from last season has not yet competed in jumping this year due to an overstrained knee. But she could return to the “Two Nights Tour”.
