After FC Bayern’s 3-0 defeat against Leverkusen, the focus is on coach Tuchel. There are rumblings in the fan scene, but the Bayern bosses are demonstratively supporting their coach. Another early change of coach does not fit into their concept.
The day after FC Bayern’s disappointing performance in Leverkusen There was a small note stuck to Säbener Strasse with a clear statement: “Tuchel out”. There is unrest and disbelief in the record champions’ fan scene after the 3-0 defeat in the top game – especially Tuchel’s unusual line-up in what was perhaps the decisive game for the championship irritated the fans.
The calls from some fans for the coach to be fired are becoming louder and louder – and not just since the defeat in Leverkusen. Because Bayern have long lost the naturalness of the game. The famous “Mia san mia” cannot be seen. The tabloids are also increasingly concerned with the coaching question: “From now on Tuchel is wobbling,” was the headline in Bild on Monday, along with the alleged news that star coach Jose Mourinho was “in the mood for Bayern” and was learning German.
FC Bayern hopes for “more continuity” on the Coaching position
But the Bayern bosses have so far stood behind their coach. CEO Jan-Christian Dressen said after the Bayer game: “Nothing has changed in terms of the coaching question” – and the players, like Thomas Müller, did not blame the coach after the defeat, but rather the team.
FC Bayern wants to avoid another premature change of coach and hopes for “more continuity” in the coaching position, as Uli Hoeneß recently said. Because: “Whenever we’ve worked with a coach for a long time, it’s always been good: with Pep Guardiola, with Jupp Heynckes, with Ottmar Hitzfeld, with Udo Lattek. We don’t have this consistency, this stability at the moment,” said the honorary president in the FAZ.
Tuchel, that would mean, should be given time – as the first Bayern coach since Guardiola, the last to date, who did not leave after less than two years. The Spaniard left Säbener Strasse in 2016, and since then there have been seven coaches, including Tuchel, on the Munich sidelines.
From March 1st, Max Eberl will most likely become the new sports director at FC Bayern – a change is expected for the German champions from summer onwards – whether with or without Tuchel depends on the further games. Another embarrassment like the one against Leverkusen would force the Munich management team to rethink. Tuchel needs convincing victories as quickly as possible in order not to come under more criticism. The next chance is in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League today at Lazio Rome (live in the radio report from 8:50 p.m. and in the live ticker on the Sportschau).
