Before the Augsburg game: Baumann extends contract, cruciate ligament tear in Berisha

As of: November 10, 2023 3:41 p.m

Before the guest appearance at FC Augsburg, TSG Hoffenheim announced the contract extension of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. However, there is also bad news.

Oliver Baumann is a keeper, captain and absolute top performer at TSG Hoffenheim. The 33-year-old has had a strong season so far and has already saved his team numerous points, for example in Kraichgauer’s turbulent 3-2 win at VfB Stuttgart. In the Baden-Württemberg duel, Baumann saved a penalty from Deniz Undav and also thwarted numerous other chances.

Matarazzo: “Fantastic news for the entire TSG family”

Baumann has been one of the leading players in coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team for years – and has now extended his contract until June 30, 2026. Much to the TSG coach’s delight: “This is fantastic news for the entire TSG family.”

The Hoffenheim record player

Baumann moved from league rivals SC Freiburg to Hoffenheim in July 2014. With 342 competitive games so far, he is TSG’s record player.

Baumann himself justified the contract extension in a club statement as follows: “I matured into a German national player in Hoffenheim and have already played internationally in the Europa League and Champions League here, among other things. I find the best conditions at TSG to continue to develop myself to be able to develop further in sports.”

“Oliver Baumann is not only an identification figure and record player for our club, but also a role model and model professional,” says managing director Alexander Rosen: “Oli went through all the ups and downs with us, was always a leader and always remained true to himself, even though he has continually reinvented himself as a goalkeeper.”

Berisha: Suspicion of cruciate ligament rupture confirmed

The captain will remain on board for the long term – Mergim Berisha will be missing for a longer period of time. On Friday, TSG Hoffenheim announced that the attacker “torn a cruciate ligament in his right knee during training. He will now undergo an operation,” the club said.

“This is bitter news. Mergim has been getting better and better recently and has shown that he can be a strong option for our offensive,” says Pirmin Schwegler, head of professional football at TSG in the club’s announcement. “Of course we will take Mergim with us “We will support him with all the means at our disposal so that he can be back on the pitch as quickly as possible,” added Schwegler.

The 25-year-old came to TSG from FC Augsburg in the summer for a fee of just under 14 million euros. The two-time national player had so far not progressed beyond the role of a supplementary player at Hoffenheim. In addition to Berisha, Robert Skov, Pavel Kaderabek and Florian Grillitsch will also be missing from the Kraichgauer team.
