Beernem completes renewal of station environment

Rail infrastructure manager Infrabel is currently laying two extra tracks for more capacity on the railway line between Bruges and Ghent. The NMBS is taking advantage of this to increase and renovate the platforms in the various stations on the railway, together with Infrabel, in order to improve the accessibility of the station and train.

Due to renovation works, the station in Beernem is now fully accessible. The new pedestrian tunnel under the tracks provides access via stairs and ramps to the elevated platforms equipped with awnings, shelters, benches, energy-efficient LED lighting, loudspeakers and guide tiles for the blind. New car parks (for a total of 120 cars) have been provided on both sides of the tracks. The construction of new bicycle sheds (for more than 400 bicycles) is also planned to allow travelers to take the train as smoothly as possible.

The Stationsplein has been designed as a pleasant, green zone. The square will also retain its event function. A bicycle point is located on the renovated station square on the Wingene Steenweg side, which is operated by the Beernem OCMW. Everyone can go here for minor bicycle repairs, bicycle engraving, a bike wash or to rent a bicycle. There will also be public toilets.

Investment in passenger and freight traffic Infrabel and its subsidiary TUC RAIL have been working on the third and fourth track for some time now. The works are currently at cruising speed. In Hansbeke and Aalter, the architectural works are in their last straight line. At the same time, rail works are in full swing between Oostkamp and Beernem. The construction of two new tracks should make the coastal region more easily accessible from the interior and will also benefit freight traffic
