Renze Klamer shows his channel colleague Gerard Joling the door firmly. The singer was actually supposed to perform in his talk show last night, but the presenter did not want that. “Shame.”
Anyone who thought that kinship in the television world was a thing of the past now that RTL and Talpa have strengthened their ties is wrong. RTL 4 star Gerard Joling has great difficulty getting permission to perform in the SBS 6 hit Today Inside and yesterday he was not allowed to go to RTL’s own Renze because of a VI performance.
Renze skips
Gerard was actually supposed to sing his hit Twee Motten last night in Renze Klamer’s program, but because he was already on Today Inside the night before, that was not allowed. “No, no, no, I’m not with Renze,” says the singer in the online VI section In The Walkways.
Why? “I was going to sing the Moths for a minute, but we just honestly said that I was in the program here and then they said: ‘Then we’ll skip it for a moment.’ Well, that is of course very nice, but I think it is a shame.”
‘Very strange!
Silly, says Wilfred Genee. “Correctly? That’s just weird, isn’t it? You are from RTL! It is already very special that you can come here, but that is allowed as long as you can finish that CD here.”
Gerard: “Yes, if I can sing, I can sit here. I think that’s very nice of RTL, of course, right? They asked if I would like to sing the Moths.”
Looking for the edge
Wilfred: “You are one of the faces of RTL, you are often there, you are one of the trendsetters and those programs often don’t really get released if you are not there, right?”
Gerard: “Of course I can never say that about myself, but I do like the fun and we sometimes push the edge. I don’t think it’s always good for myself either, but I think if you’re just honest and sincere, it can last quite a long time, right?”
Frost calling
Wilfred then proposes that Gerard not end the TV year with Renze, but with VI. “Then I’ll bring some nice dancers with me!” Gerard shouts enthusiastically. “I have to call Peter van der Vorst to see if he’s okay with that, but Peter is always just as sympathetic and just as nice. If something comes up, I can always call him. He is always open to reason.”
Well, Peter ended up just banning that gig. René van der Gijp: “You know, let it go, dude. Those RTL people… Peter van der Vorst is also a whiner, man. Stop it, please. You shouldn’t want that, dude.”
The Masked Singer
René emphasizes that Gerard would only be seen in Today Inside after The Masked Singer, with which he can be seen on RTL 4. “Gerard just enjoyed coming to sing a Christmas song with us after the program he is in, namely The Masked Singer. That’s always fun. Then he’s always welcome, right?”
