Because of vandalism in Neukölln – children are left dry

The water in the Buschkrug Park was turned off because of vandalism. And that shouldn’t change anytime soon.

There is no trace of the long-awaited cooling off in the Buschkrug Park this summer. The water playground is sitting on dry land.

Reason: The water was turned off. Instead of an iron water pump, only a metal pipe protrudes from the stones of the water labyrinth.

Despite temperatures of 30 degrees and more: The water should not run here for the whole summer!

As early as winter, the district office found that the underground hoses had been torn out of the ground. At the beginning of last week, further damage to the system due to vandalism was noticed.

The employees of the green space office responsible for playgrounds could not do anything either. Therefore, the remains of the pumping mechanism were unscrewed and the device closed with a piece of wood.

Family man Dirk K. thinks that’s a pity: “Now in the summer holidays my boys would have been really happy about the water playground. The two are real water rats.”

A repair this summer is no longer possible, says the district office. In the tropical heat, the people of Neukölln will probably have to cool down somewhere else.
