A homage to the father, reduced, almost puristic, in the spirit of the “Girl From Ipanema” composer. Bebel’s own music has so far been characterized by the fact that it transforms bossa nova into the present, mixing it with electro, jazz and pop influences, lightly and elegantly. The last album, “Agora” (2020), was overshadowed by the death of João Gilberto, who died in 2019.
Bebel is one hundred percent João’s daughter
The singer is now interpreting eleven of her father’s songs, which have accompanied her since childhood. “Adeus América” or “Undiú” sound as if the spirit of the great musician were dancing across the beach in person. “O Pato” is also close to the original, just a bit more opulent. One thing is clearer than ever after this album: Bebel is one hundred percent João’s daughter.
